Help provide lunches for 50 women on the 1st Saturday of each month!

Please keep in mind that the shelter does not have ovens. They do have a microwave for warming already prepared food along with refrigerators for its storage.

You can provide bagged lunches, or hot lunch – and you can provide for 25, or for all 50 ladies.

For those looking to earn SSL hours:     25 lunches = 2 Student Service Learning Hours

Food is served at 11:30 am, so please plan to drop-off your contributions for this meal before 11am that morning.

as with all KindWorks projects, when you register you do so with the understanding that volunteering may involve physical activity, the handling of sharp objects and cooking apparatus, the lifting of heavy objects, contact with unidentified and unfamiliar persons, and will require the exercise of reasonable care to avoid injury and/or damage, and agree to assume any and all risks of personal injury or property damage.

For creating bagged lunches, here are the shelter’s recommendations:

Bottled Water and/or Juice

Assorted Sandwiches

Turkey and cheese

Peanut Butter and Jelly

Roast Beef and Cheese

Cheese and Veggie on whole wheat bread or wheat wraps

Fresh Fruit or Fruit Cups (oranges, peaches, and grapes are preferred)

Bag of chips and/or granola bar

Yogurt or cheese stick

Please label the bags with the type of sandwich so we do not have clients going through all the bags. Also you do not need to add condiments because we have some and do not want the bread to get soggy.

We’d love to have you help us drop off some delicious and nutritious food for dinner and for breakfast (the next morning) for the ladies at the Derwood Women’s Shelter. There are 35 women living at this shelter.

Three things to please keep in mind before you sign up:

  1. Only signup when you have a very high certainty that those advanced dates will work for you
  2. Write down in your calendar what you signed up to bring, and
  3. Remember that each volunteer participating should sign up for their own distinct volunteer spot.

These best practices ensure that the ladies will have some terrific meals and that each volunteer is needed to make this community support happen.  Thanks in advance for complying with them!

Please keep in mind the shelter does not have ovens. They do have a microwave for warming already prepared food along with refrigerators for its storage. The shelter would also appreciate help with a few pantry items (which you can see on our sign-up sheets) if you would like to help out with these items!

Food is served at 6:30 pm, so please plan to drop off your contributions before 6:00 pm.
