In this unusual time of coronavirus, KindWorks would still love to provide the furniture and furnishings for an Afghan family arriving this week. They have 4 children, a 14yr old daughter and 3 sons, ages 6, 12 and 16. This family will receive support services through Lutheran Social Services.

So…let’s Do Kind Works while Socially Distancing! The major furniture donor has arranged for her items to be delivered directly to the apartment; thank you!! We will meet OUTSIDE the home of the bed donor (you will receive the address in the confirmation and reminder emails when you sign up below!), and you can load your donations quickly and directly into a Uhaul truck on Friday, March 20, between 10:30-11am. The extended family will unload and set up for their newly arrived cousins.

Thank you for donating good, dignity quality furniture and furnishings. All items should be in good, dignity condition: clean, unstained, and 100% pet-hair-, cobweb- and smoke-free.

Please email Alexa at aabdelatey@earthlink.net or call/text (540) 538-9696 at any time in the process if you have questions.

Many, many thanks!

Deb & Alexa, for the KindWorks Home Setup Team

**as with all KindWorks projects, when you register you do so with the understanding that volunteering may involve physical activity, the handling of sharp objects and cooking apparatus, the lifting of heavy objects, contact with unidentified and unfamiliar persons, and will require the exercise of reasonable care to avoid injury and/or damage, and you agree to assume any and all risks of personal injury or property damage.

KindWorks will prepare an apartment for an Afghan refugee family in Hyattsville, MD 20784 on Saturday, March 14 starting at 10:30am. The six daughters are 21, 19, 17, 10, 8 and 5 years old, and the son is 14. They are arriving through International Rescue Committee.

The interfaith group of Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church, Bethesda Jewish Congregation and Idara-e-Jafaria will join KindWorks to transform an empty apartment into fully furnished, warm and welcoming home!

Donors and volunteers are invited to join us for an hour or two to arrange furniture, organize the bedrooms and kitchen, put together and make beds, lay out toys, and hang art. The setup will take just a few hours. Many hands make light work and it’s a lot of fun!**

Thank you for donating good, dignity quality furniture and furnishings. All items should be clean, unstained, and 100% pet-hair-, cobweb- and smoke -free.

When you sign up below, you will receive confirmation and reminder emails (for each item!), and address details will be sent out closer to the 14th.

Please bring your donations directly to the setup (this really helps!) or contact your respective congregation for information on where to take them before the 14th.

KindWorks’ excellent professional moving partner, Bookstore Movers, will be delivering living and dining room furniture for this setup as well as KindWorks’ Saturday’s afternoon setup. The beds will be purchased by International Rescue Committee as they must be new.

Please email Alexa at aabdelatey@earthlink.net or call/text (540) 538-9696 at any time in the process if you have questions.

If you would like to participate but are unable to bring items or volunteer, please consider a financial donation in support of the KindWorks Refugee program HERE.

Many, many thanks!

Sincerely, Alexa, Sue, Diane & Kathy, KindWorks Home Setup Team

KindWorks and the Holy Trinity School community will welcome a refugee family arriving soon to the United States by preparing their new apartment home. We will learn the specifics of the family’s country of origin and children closer to their arrival and our setup dates.

Thank you in advance for donating good, dignity quality furniture and furnishings. All items should be clean, unstained, and 100% pet-hair-, cobweb- and smoke -free. We request that you bring your donations directly to the setup, as we have limited capacity to pick up and store furniture ahead of time.

Eighth Grade students from the Arrupe and Romero Houses will transform an empty apartment into fully furnished, warm and welcoming home using items donated by the Holy Trinity School community. In just a few short hours, they will unload and arrange furniture, organize the bedrooms and kitchen, put together and make beds, lay out toys and hang art! Welcome to the KindWorks apartment setup signup for a newly arrived refugee family!

Your contributions will help turn an empty apartment into a warm and welcoming home! Your willingness to jump in and help is truly special and will be so deeply appreciated by this family.

We will next be helping a family of 5 from Afghanistan consisting of a husband and wife, their 8 and 5 year old daughters and 3 year old son.   Let make sure that by the end of the weekend this  family has what they need to really feel at home in their new space!

This family is already in the apartment, and living without pretty much anything, so we are asking if you can drop your items off today, tomorrow or in the next few days.

A WORD ABOUT QUALITY:  We ask that you please donate either very gently used or new, quality furniture and furnishings. We thank you in advance for making sure that all donated items are clean (without stains and 100% pet-hair-, cobweb- and smoke-free) when donated.

LINENS: Please label or tag the bag for all bedding (mattress pad, sheets, blankets, comforter/duvet and bedcovers) BY SIZE as twin or queen and bundle sets together — without marking on the actual linens.  As noted above, new or VERY GENTLY used linens are great!  Worn sheets and towels won’t work.

IMPORTANT: Please bring only those items for which you have signed up UNLESS  you have been in touch and received confirmation to bring specific additional items. We so appreciate your generosity and your understanding!!

THE PROCESS FOR DELIVERY:  After you signup your items, you will be connected via text with the family so that you can arrange a mutually convenient time to drop off your items.

The setup lead for this project is Julie.  If you have questions, you can reach Julie by email at juliegarel@me.com or by text at 757-639-7702.
