Please sign up below to provide the items needed for our set-up of an apartment for an Afghani refugee family of four sisters: two adults in their early 20s and 2 girls in their early teens.

KindWorks is thrilled to be partnering with National Community Church and the Lower Montgomery Women Who Care philanthropy group. Thank you to these amazing community partners, so dedicated to community and to service!

National Community Church is kindly storing the large, recently donated furniture. We will begin the setup around 9am at a Hyattsville storage unit to load our rental truck. The apartment setup will begin around 11am. It’s really fun to arrange everything, and we hope that you can stay to help when you drop off your items! If you are NOT able to bring your items on Wednesday, please contact Alexa. We have until Friday midday to finalize the setup and add additional items as needed.

Please email Alexa at aabdelatey@earthlink.net or call/text (540) 538-9696 if you have any questions.

Many thanks!

**We have a last minute need for two box springs! Alternatively, we could use two bed frames that don’t require box springs. Please sign up if you have either box springs or bed frames and especially if you can transport to the apartment in Riverdale on Wednesday (or Thursday). Thank  you!

KindWorkers will prepare an apartment for an Ethiopian family of a mother and her son (11) and daughter (5) arriving in early September to an apartment in Parkview Gardens, Riverdale, MD 20737 (just off the BW Parkway inside 495).

To KindWorks Donors: We invite you to drop-0ff your donations between 9-10am on Saturday, Sept 5. Thank you, as always, for donating good, dignity quality furniture and furnishings. All items should be in good, dignity condition: clean, unstained, and 100% pet-hair-, cobweb- and smoke-free. Thank you for vacuuming large furniture items and all rugs prior to donation. You are welcome to drop-off items curbside or  take them into the apartment.

This will be KindWorks’ first full apartment setup with volunteers attending since mid-March! Volunteers are invited to help in a socially-distanced manner to arrange furniture, organize the bedrooms and kitchen, make beds, lay out toys, and hang art while prioritizing safety! We ask all KindWorkers to wear masks at all times. We will work in 1hr blocks of Family Pods of 2-3 family members working together. Please be sure to sign up for a time slot if you’d like to volunteer.

Please email Alexa at aabdelatey@earthlink.net or call/text (540) 538-9696 at any time in the process if you have questions.

Many, many thanks!

Alexa, KindWorks Home Setup Coordinator

**as with all KindWorks projects, when you register you do so with the understanding that volunteering may involve physical activity, the handling of sharp objects and cooking apparatus, the lifting of heavy objects, contact with unidentified and unfamiliar persons, and will require the exercise of reasonable care to avoid injury and/or damage, and you agree to assume any and all risks of personal injury or property damage.

Sometimes arriving in this country is the beginning of a new pattern, relatively free of hardships, and sometimes it sadly doesn’t work out this way.  This Syrian family has been in the country for some time but they lost all that they had in a fire that destroyed their entire apartment building.  Please consider helping us replace what they had and to reset the reset! They are safely in a new apartment, but must start fresh with everything!

We would love your help to provide new furniture, household goods for kitchen, bath and bedroom, and toys and clothes for the 3 children. The girl is 11 and the boys are 5 and 7 years old.

Thank you for donating good, dignity quality furniture and furnishings. All items should be in good, dignity condition: clean, unstained, and 100% pet-hair-, cobweb- and smoke-free. Thank you for vacuuming large furniture items and all rugs prior to donation.

Due to Covid-19 constraints, it is a huge help if you can deliver your donations to us. Due to privacy issues, we are requesting that you bring your donations to our storage unit on Tuesday August 18 and Thursday August 20 mornings this week, rather than to the family directly.

Please email Alexa at aabdelatey@earthlink.net or call/text (540) 538-9696 at any time in the process if you have questions.

Many, many thanks!

Here is our furnishings list for an Afghan family with 4yo and 8yo girls, 12 yo and 16yo boys, their parents and another adult woman. LSS will come pick up everything from our storage on Thursday morning. They are also willing to pick up other furnishings for use in future LSS setups while we are all still operating under covid restrictions.

Thank you!

During this Covid-impacted summer, KindWorks has an opportunity to help a large Afghan family. We are excited to provide their home furnishings; they have just secured their first apartment after having a new baby and recently arriving to the States.

In deference to the coronavirus, we ask donors to bring their items to drop-off in a socially-distanced manner to the family on Saturday, August 8 between 2 and 4pm, or Tuesday, August 11 between 5 and 7pm. Please wear a mask! We will not be going into the apartment. The family will take in all your generous donations and set up their new home.

The daughters are 14, 10, 8 and 5 years old, and the sons are 12yo, 2yo and one month old! They are receiving support through Lutheran Social Services.

Thank you for donating good, dignity quality furniture and furnishings. All items should be clean, unstained, and 100% pet-hair-, cobweb- and smoke -free. We do kindly request that you bring your donations directly to the family. We appreciate your generosity with this last minute opportunity!

When you sign up below, you will receive confirmation and reminder emails (for each item!).  Please email Alexa at aabdelatey@earthlink.net or call/text (540) 538-9696 at any time in the process if you have questions.

If you would like to participate but are unable to bring items or volunteer, please consider a financial donation in support of the KindWorks Refugee Home Setups program HERE.

Many, many thanks!

Sincerely, Alexa, Deb and Runa

In this unusual time of coronavirus, KindWorks would still love to provide the furniture and furnishings for an Afghan family arriving this week. They have 4 children, a 14yr old daughter and 3 sons, ages 6, 12 and 16. This family will receive support services through Lutheran Social Services.

So…let’s Do Kind Works while Socially Distancing! The major furniture donor has arranged for her items to be delivered directly to the apartment; thank you!! We will meet OUTSIDE the home of the bed donor (you will receive the address in the confirmation and reminder emails when you sign up below!), and you can load your donations quickly and directly into a Uhaul truck on Friday, March 20, between 10:30-11am. The extended family will unload and set up for their newly arrived cousins.

KindWorks and the Holy Trinity School community will welcome a refugee family arriving soon to the United States by preparing their new apartment home. We will learn the specifics of the family’s country of origin and children closer to their arrival and our setup dates.

Thank you in advance for donating good, dignity quality furniture and furnishings. All items should be clean, unstained, and 100% pet-hair-, cobweb- and smoke -free. We request that you bring your donations directly to the setup, as we have limited capacity to pick up and store furniture ahead of time.

Eighth Grade students from the Arrupe and Romero Houses will transform an empty apartment into fully furnished, warm and welcoming home using items donated by the Holy Trinity School community.
