Most everyone likes to have their birthday acknowledged, and the 38 ladies staying at the Interfaith Works Women’s Center in Derwood are no exception! Help give each month’s “birthday girls” a little party by delivering one or more of the items needed to make a fuss over their special day. Homemade or store-bought goodies are both welcome.
Responding to a fire at the Crabbs Branch shelter over the July 4th weekend, the residents have been relocated to a new facility in Potomac. Until further notice (and likely through year-end) services that we were providing to the Crabbs Branch location will now be delivered to Potomac (which address you will receive after you register to help).
Please plan to drop off your contributions for this party before 6:30 pm on Wednesday (marking them: “KindWorks birthday”) so the celebration can begin on time. There are refrigerators at the shelter to keep your donations cold until party time.
To ensure that the party goes as planned and that each volunteer’s efforts are put to use, note these signup guidelines:
- Only sign up when you are certain that the volunteer date works for you.
- Write down in your calendar what you signed up to bring.
- Remember that each volunteer participating should sign up for their own distinct volunteer spot.
Student Service Learning
Students may earn SSL hours at the following rate only for homemade goodies (students may NOT earn SSL hours for donating purchased/store-bought items):
- baking a birthday cake or 38 cupcakes = 2 SSL hours
- preparing a fruit platter = 1 SSL hour
- making three birthday cards = 1 SSL
Students will need to take pictures before, during and after preparing party items in order to be awarded SSL hours for participation. SSL volunteer service requests should be submitted using KindWorks KindCooking SSL Google Form: https://forms.gle/RtudD8jhg3NGxMkn7.
Safety Reminder
