Deliver Meal Items to the Women’s Shelter in Derwood

November 17

Help put together a delicious taco dinner and/or supply breakfast items for the next morning for 38 women at the Interfaith Works Women’s Center in Derwood. The shelter also needs a few pantry items, detailed on the signup.

Please keep in mind that the shelter does not have ovens. It does have a microwave for warming already prepared food, along with refrigerators for storage. Food is served at 6:30 pm, so please plan to drop  off your contributions for this meal before 6 pm that day (marking them: “KindWorks meal”).

To ensure that the ladies at the shelter will have some terrific meals and that each volunteer’s efforts are put to use, note these signup guidelines:

  • Only sign up when you are certain that the volunteer date works for you.
  • Write down in your calendar what you signed up to bring.
  • Remember that each volunteer participating should sign up for their own distinct volunteer spot.

Student Service Learning

Students may earn SSL hours at the following rate only for cooking or chopping items (students may NOT earn SSL hours for donating purchased/store-bought items):

  • cooking taco meat = 1 SSL hour

Safety Reminder

As with all KindWorks projects, when you register you do so with the understanding that volunteering may involve physical activity, the handling of sharp objects and cooking apparatus, the lifting of heavy objects, contact with unidentified and unfamiliar persons, and will require the exercise of reasonable care to avoid injury and/or damage, and agree to assume any and all risks of personal injury or property damage.
