Help provide lunches for 38 women at the Interfaith Works Women’s Center in Derwood. Bagged lunches with sandwiches or hot meals are both welcome, and you can choose to send enough for 19 or for all 38 ladies.
To create bagged lunches, the women’s center recommends including the following:
- Bottle water and/or juice
- Assorted sandwiches, such as turkey & cheese, peanut butter & jelly, roast beef & cheese, and/or cheese & veggie. Please mark the sandwich type on the bag and do NOT use condiments (they make the sandwiches soggy and are available for the residents to add on site).
- Fresh fruit or a fruit cup (oranges, peaches, or grapes are preferred)
- Chips and/or a granola bar
- Yogurt or cheese stick
Please keep in mind that the shelter does not have ovens. It does have a microwave for warming already prepared food, along with refrigerators for storage. Food is served at 11:30 am, so please plan to drop off your contributions for this meal before 11 am that day (marking them: “KindWorks meal”).
To ensure that the ladies at the shelter will have lunch available to them and that each volunteer’s efforts are put to use, note these signup guidelines:
- Only sign up when you are certain that the volunteer date works for you.
- Write down in your calendar what you signed up to bring.
- Remember that each volunteer participating should sign up for their own distinct volunteer spot.
Student Service Learning
Students may earn SSL hours at the following rate:
